banana-cake-569743_640Oftentimes I crave for a cake but have to give it up as I simply cannot go through the hassle of making a whole cake for a small craving. So when I came across the idea of cake in a cup and that too in a couple of minutes, I hunted down the recipes to try.

Here are two of my personal favorite recipes.

First recipe is a banana flavored cake.

Ingredients for banana cake:

  • Butter 1 tablespoon melted
  • Banana 1
  • Milk 1 tablespoon
  • Egg 1 beaten
  • Brown sugar or white sugar 3 tablespoons
  • Plain Flour 3 tablespoons
  • Baking powder ½ teaspoon


Take a microwave friendly mug and add butter in it. Melt it for 10 seconds. Take the mug out and add milk and egg then beat it with a spoon or for more ease, use a fork. Now add mashed banana and mix well with the fork.

Your mixture is ready to be microwaved so place it in for 1 minute full and check if it is cooked.

See if the pudding has risen enough with softness in the middle. If unsure then microwave for another 10 seconds and so on till it is cooked to your liking. And you are done cooking the cake. Yes, it takes only a few unbelievable minutes.

Peanut butter mug cake

Another favorite recipe for mug cake that I use in place of peanut butter and jelly craving is peanut butter mug cake. Here is the recipe.

Ingredients for Peanut butter mug cake:

  • Peanut butter 1 tbsp.
  • Milk 3 tbsp.
  • Flour 3 tbsp.
  • Sugar 2 tbsp.
  • Cocoa powder 1 ½ tbsp.
  • Baking powder ¼ tsp.
  • Salt
  • Vegetable oil 1 ½ tbsp.


Again in a microwavable mug, add in sugar, cocoa powder, flour, a pinch of salt and baking soda and whisk all these ingredients using a fork.

Now add vegetable oil, peanut butter and milk and whisk again till a smooth paste is formed. Place the mug in microwave and heat for 1 minute and 10 seconds on high power settings.

Don’t worry if the cake deflates after rising. It is ready to be eaten! Treat your cravings anytime of the day.

Mug cakes are super easy to make and the quickest recipe for a cake but it’s microwaved food and care must be taken to keep a balance in your eating habits for a healthy lifestyle!
